His work allows him to enjoy enduring relationships as a counselor to several cultural institutions, including the New York Botanical Garden.
A significant part of the practice involves the representation of high-net-worth individuals and family offices, along with not-for-profit and charitable organizations, concentrating on tax solutions for the preservation, transfer, and deployment of substantial financial assets.
Richard brings specialized expertise in estate planning, trust administration, and related litigation, collaborating with other departments to provide comprehensive legal services and effective tax solutions for optimal results.
As the long-time managing partner of a boutique law firm, Richard was responsible for overseeing the firm’s distinguished and lasting client relationships while guiding its transition to modern practices and technologies, particularly in the areas of estate planning and legal services. During a pivotal period when the firm was considering a merger or acquisition, his leadership role expanded to include identifying prospective business partners and assessing how best to align them with the firm’s unique client base, especially in relation to providing tailored tax solutions.
Beyond his legal services, Richard frequently lectures on tax solutions and estate planning topics, and he has served as an adjunct professor of law at Albany Law School.
Richard’s leadership extends to his current position as director and president of the Metropolitan Opera Guild. In addition, he is an accomplished operatic tenor, having performed at festivals both in the United States and internationally, with appearances at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall. His expertise in estate planning and legal services complements his artistic talents, as he understands the importance of tax solutions for artists and patrons alike.
